Anita 01:28
Oh, oh Anita, I really need ya. Just like the fake bricks in your living room, I’m so painted blue. It’s been a year since you’ve been here. And all I do, my dear, is sit and stare at these thirty-seven pictures of you. Are you lonely down in Euless, Texas? Is it useless to dream of you from here in Massachusetts? How can I be your number one with all those boys around? Roy is just an asshole, and Tom doesn’t really count. Oh, Anita, I really need ya. Just like the fake bricks in your living room, I’m so painted blue. It’s been a year since you’ve been here. You’ve got so many hoop earrings and I’d jump through them for you.

The sunshine state, heaven’s waiting room, Disney’s resume is calling you, but I’m still in school. Put your shorts away! Don’t go to Florida, dear, without me. You know I won’t be waiting when you’re home, sun-tanned and lonely. If you go to Florida, dear, without me, I can’t say I’ll be happy. I’ll be cold and only angry. ’Cause flea market hands and hotdog stands would be my heart’s delight. ...and under seashore stars, and in Ybor bars, we’d receive the night. Don’t go to Florida, dear, without me. You know I won’t be waiting when you’re home, sun-tanned and lonely. If you go to Florida, dear, without me, I can’t say I’ll be happy. I’ll be cold and only angry. Spring training? What’s the point? Their rusty joints still winter-sore. Give me time for finals then we can start keeping score. Give me just a little more... The endless spring won’t change a thing when it comes to us. And it may sound harsh, but ask the marsh. Landscapes can’t say much! So I’m begging you to see this through. Let our love take hold. Then we’ll exit to the southern tip where the palm trees grow... Don’t go to Florida, dear, without me. [If I know just one thing, Christmas time is coming.] You know I won’t be waiting when you’re home, sun-tanned and lonely. If you go to Florida, dear, without me, [If I know just one thing, Christmas time is coming.] I can’t say I’ll be happy. I’ll be cold and only angry. I’ll be angry.

Potential 02:29
You bring out some potential in me. I’m essentially uninspired. You bring out something mental in me. I’m not usually this wired. Spend the afternoon in the library with you. Oh, the possibilities – the world maps and the diction’ries. Let’s nestle in betwixt the stacks of trashy romance paperbacks. ‘Cause you bring out some potential in me, when I usually feel like quittin’. You make me act quite obsessionally. Oh, it’s easy to see I’m smitten. Spend the afternoon in the city with you. I could scale the stairs in Porter Station ‘cause I’m so full of pure elation. With you it all seems effortless. I can’t keep still I can’t resist. Spend the afternoon eating candy fish with you. Look how high the grass has grown. The voicemails on the telephone will have to wait a day or three. With you around I’m worry-free. You bring out some potential in me. I’m essentially uninspired. You bring out something mental in me. I’m not usually this wired all the time.

Laser Show 04:18
They asked me if I'd go out to the laser show. Heard about it on the radio, now here we are in steaming summer. Lasers can shape your corneal contour but they can't make poor Emerson Lake and Palmer better. Is something wrong when I'm not put off by this? The stars shine on to Petty Floyd and Kiss. ’Cause I've got an awkward smile just right for nights like this. Plastic cups and pent up discontent. I try not to forget just where my keys and ID are. The beams, they bend and curve. All of the strains are heard. Familiar refrains emerge, from “Urgent" into "Drive My Car." Is something wrong when I'm not put off by this? The stars shine on to Petty Floyd and Kiss. ’Cause I've got an awkward smile just right for nights like this. Shouts of irony turned serious. We have been severed from our moorings. What we shared has been made clear to us, out of the night into the morning. The lights come on. People move along. Just us and these old songs, here in FM ecstasy. Lasers are useful for tattoo removal, but to be truthful, you can't improve on nights like these.
